Mental health refers to a state of emotional, cognitive and behavioural wellbeing. It is all about the individual’s thought process and how it reflects feelings and behaviour.
Students going through a depressive episode may experience mood swings, sleep disturbances, appetite changes, and headaches and/or body pains with no apparent physical cause. Symptoms may vary from person to person.
Most college students experience anxiety from time to time. Feeling extremely stressed, restless, agitated, headaches, trouble in concentration, loss of appetite, shortness of breath or excessive sweating. Symptoms may vary from person to person.
Eating disorders cover a variety of conditions marked by major irregularities in eating habits and an intense preoccupation with one's body image or shape. Symptoms may include distorted body image, starvation, dehydration, over exercising etc.
College students frequently use alcohol and recreational drugs, which can become problematic. Some symptoms of being addicted to substance are blurry vision, fear, anxiety, loss/gain of weight etc.
If you face any of these issues, it’s advisable to go seek medical attention.
