UPSC Exam pattern is set by the conducting body, i.e., the Union Public Service Commission. It is a yearly conducted examination and the paper pattern for the IAS Exam has been the same since 2013.
– The UPSC CSE Prelims comprises two objective-type papers (General Studies I and General Studies II or CSAT) for a total of 400 marks. – Both papers are usually held on the same day in two sessions via offline mode (pen-paper).
UPSC Prelims Exam Pattern
– GS1 has 100 questions and GS2 has 80 questions. – The duration of both exams are 2 hours each. – Language of both the exams are English/Hindi.
– In GS1 -0.66 marks for every incorrect answer. – In GS2 -0.83 marks for every incorrect answer. – Maximum marks of both exams are 200 marks each.
UPSC Prelims Exam Pattern
– Cutoff varies every year for GS1 and 33% qualifying criteria for GS2. – All the questions in prelims are objective type questions.
After the Prelims, a candidate hardly has three to four months for the preparation of the Mains Exam, so it is always suggested to prepare well in advance.
