Exam Pattern UPSC Prelims 2024

The exam has two important papers, each worth 200 marks. Both papers are multiple-choice and last for two hours each. The second paper, called General Studies Paper-II, is needed to pass the Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination, but you only need to score at least 33% in this paper. You can choose to answer the questions in either Hindi or English since both languages are available.

Each question in the examination presents four possible answers. If a candidate selects the incorrect option, a penalty of one-third (0.33) of the marks assigned to that question will be deducted. Similarly, if a candidate chooses multiple answers, even if one of them is correct, it will be deemed incorrect, and the same penalty will be applied. However, if a candidate opts to leave a question unanswered, without providing any response, no penalty will be imposed for that particular question.
