GS Paper 1 of UPSC Mains is one of the four general studies papers. It is a subjective type of paper consisting of subjects like History, Geography, Art and Culture, and Indian Society. Along with GS Paper 1, there are eight other papers in the Mains stage of the IAS Exam.
The General Studies Paper 1 is divided into 5 sections: Art and Culture, Modern History, World History, Indian Society, and World and Indian Geography. GS 1 is one of the most scoring papers in the UPSC IAS Mains exam, a good score in GS 1 will help you increase your mains score.
Knowing the trend in the UPSC GS 1 paper is crucial for preparing for the UPSC IAS exam. This would highlight which topics are more important than others so that you can dedicate your time and efforts accordingly.
For preparing each topic, start with the NCERTs to build up your knowledge base and then move to standard textbooks for the topic. Read current affairs daily, and practice questions based on the current affairs to strengthen your answer writing skills.
Make short notes on the topic; it will help you revise the topics quickly. Practise and make diagrams relevant to each topic. This is especially important for Geography questions, where students can draw good diagrams.
To be fully prepared for the UPSC Mains GS Paper 1 in 2023, candidates must cover a range of topics including history, art & culture, geography, politics, and economics.
