The UPSC Exam pattern is set by the conducting body, i.e., the Union Public Service Commission. It is a yearly conducted examination and the paper pattern for the IAS Exam has been the same since 2013.
Candidates have to score at least 25% marks in each qualifying paper in order to clear the main examination. If candidates are unable to clear the qualifying papers, they will not be eligible for the personality test, even if they qualify Papers I-VII.
Once the Civil Services Exam (Preliminary) results are declared, successful candidates will have to fill out the online Detailed Application Form (DAF) for UPSC Mains on the official website (upsc.gov.in).
The UPSC Mains syllabus can be divided into two parts: 1. Qualifying Papers (Paper A and Paper B) 2. Papers which are counted for merit ranking (Essay, General Studies and Optional Subjects)
The UPSC CSE Mains exam is scheduled from September 15, 2023.
Candidates who aspire to become IAS, IPS, IFS and IRS officers have to give UPSC Mains before they are cleared for the IAS interview/UPSC Personality Test stage.
