A sports journalist is a writer who creates media content for various local or international sports-related activities and events locally.
Completing a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in English, Communications or Journalism can increase your chances of becoming a sports journalist. A Bachelor of Journalism can help demonstrate your proficiency and competency to work in the field.
An internship can be paid or unpaid, and some programs may offer academic credit upon completion of the term. Unpaid internships can classify the participant as a “trainee,” while interns categorized as “employees” must be paid at least minimum wage.
Internships are a great way to get experience and create a strong journalist, and media network. You can develop your journalistic skills and learn how to meet deadlines, and interact with fellow media personnel.
Once you have a portfolio of work, apply to entry-level roles, such as junior reporter. Working with senior sports journalists and editors can help improve your skill set.
