‘Build An Epic Career’ Is A Practical Guide To Achieving Career Success

In a time where you have a plethora of options, conventional and non-conventional, in choosing a career path, most of us still end up being confused, scared and lost when it comes to making a career-related decision. We try to copy the journey others have been through in search of success, not creating our own picture of it, and end up in places that don’t allow us to be our best version.

For all those who found the above lines relatable, Ankur Warikoo’s latest book ‘Build An Epic Career’ is a one-stop guide answering the FAQs of navigating through the ups and downs of your profession. Taking examples from his own life experiences, Warikoo has put together the book in a way that is easy to read and understand, irrespective of whether you’re a fresher or a seasoned professional.

While not being your traditional self-help book, Build An Epic Career, takes you through the process of understanding your passion and purpose and then takes you through a journey of developing the right mindset, building habits and above all, connecting with yourself. The book highlights finding the right way to balance your work and personal life without being too preachy. In between chapters, you find real stories of people who share their career journeys from where they started and where they are now. This adds to the personal connection in the book, making it even more relatable.

Reading the stories of people taking career breaks, changing industries and constantly learning new skills imbibes a sense of confidence in you as a reader. I am sure that’s what the author aimed for and can safely say has achieved wonderfully. You will also find a chapter in the book where Ankur goes on to answer some tough questions that people often ask him. From questions like “money v/s passion” to “govt. jobs v/s startups” and choosing between earning potential and job satisfaction, you will find something that has even crossed your mind.

What I liked about this book is that out of all the books I have read about career building and money making, this is probably one that gives you the least theoretical “Gyaan” and provides you with actionable knowledge that you can start implementing in your life from the very next day.

Towards the end, the book also has some templates, action plans, and frameworks, that you can refer to for writing cover letters, cold emails, networking on social media etc. The book is a great resource no matter where you are in your career journey.

Lastly, the one takeaway I have had from this book is that I need to be disciplined with my writing, take it seriously and learn from Ankur who has been writing one book a year for the last 4 years.

Have you read the book yet? What do you think about it? Does this review make you want to go and pick this book? Tell me about it in the comments!
