Demanding Justice For Every Single Women Faced With Violence

Demanding Justice for Nanda: A Call to Respect and Accountability

In the silence of indifference, the screams of the oppressed echo louder than ever.

India, a land of contrasts where tradition meets modernity, yet amidst its vibrant tapestry lies a shadow—a shadow cast by the haunting reality of sexual violence. Behind the façade of progress, thousands of voices are stifled, their cries for justice drowned in the cacophony of societal apathy.

On March 1, 2024, tragedy struck as 41-year-old Brazilian tourist Fernanda fell victim to a heinous act of violence during her visit to our country. As Indians, as humans, we cannot turn a blind eye to this injustice. We must demand justice for Nanda, for her dignity, and for her right to safety in our country.

It is a shame upon us all that such a horrific incident could occur within our borders. Nanda came seeking adventure, culture, and the warmth of hospitality that our nation prides itself on. Instead, she found herself subjected to brutality and fear. As a society, we must bear the weight of this shame and take action to ensure that such atrocities never happen again.

Statistical Insight: In India, rape is the fourth most common crime against women. According to the 2021 annual report of the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), 31,677 rape cases were registered across the country in 2021, averaging 86 cases daily—an increase from 2020. Shockingly, nearly 89% of these rapes were committed by persons known to the victim.

Call to Action: To the Jharkhand police, this is not just another case to be filed away and forgotten. This is a call to action, a demand for accountability. We urge you to pursue every lead, leaving no stone unturned until justice is served for Nanda and for all victims of gender-based violence.

Educational Component: Our work does not stop with law enforcement. We must strive to create a society where women are valued and protected, where they can walk the streets without fear of harm. Educating our sons to see women as equals and partners in life is crucial to achieving this goal.
