We’re All Stressed Out

Stress is our best friend in the age of fast paced living. We’re always after the next goal, the next big thing, the bigger car, the more posh house, the huge ego.. oh wait, that’s not true. Or is it?

We love to compare our lives with others, whether that’s on social media, looking at our neighbours life or even comparing our grades or salaries to that of our friend’s. At every stage of life we have this background music playing, telling us we’re not there yet. Our pride makes us do foolish things. We attempt all sorts of tasks whether we’re interested in them or not, we complete several degrees, have 3 side gigs and 1 day job, 1 boyfriend and 1 situationship. It’s all a bit too much, don’t you think?

We could slow it down, smell the roses, wish upon a star, watch the sunset and eat healthy colourful meals. But we choose stress over comfort. We have to be better and bigger every step of the way, we have to keep racing each other or else…! What? Nothing. Nothing so terribly wrong is going to happen if we just slowed things down. The world will keep spinning, the economy will keep dwindling and jobs will keep changing.

We forget to live, we forget to breathe in today’s world. Let this be a reminder. Whether you have a great job or not, a big house or not, a special partner or not; you got one life to live. Don’t you want to savor every moment of it? Ease into it?

Try it out. Go for a walk for no reason. Watch the sunrise every morning. Call up your friend and talk about the good old days. Create beautiful memories with your family. Work at a job you are good at and have a hobby that ignites your passion. Take care of yourself, there’s only one of you.
