And The List Goes….

Bhartiya Janta Party has announced its list of hundred and ninety five candidates including the names of prominent leaders and cabinet ministers apart from PM Modi. However, what is significant about its specific and significant about this list is omissions and additions with many sitting legislators including the likes of East Delhi MP Gautam Gambhir, Hazaribagh MP Jayant Sinha etc withdrawing themselves from this whole process anticipating well in advance about their prospects and chances with late Sushma Swaraj,s daughter Bansuri Swaraj getting the ticket from New Delhi constituency replacing sitting MP Menakshi Lekhi from this seat. For BJP and particularly Modi and Shah it’s the winnability than the popularity which matters the most in the larger scheme of things no matter a leader can wield a strong influence and impact on the voters in a geographical area still it might not sound enough for him to sail past the finish line. Over the past few years being it any election- municipal, assembly, parliamentary, BJP has adopted this tried and tested formula almost giving everyone an occasion and opportunity to plead and present their case on the fillip this is filled with many gaps and limitations as for a typical politician this could mean an end of road for him with the top brass giving it no second thoughts. Should a party be run by the whims and fancies of a selected few by not taking everyone on board in the consultative and deliberative process as whatever goes behind the screen is nothing but an eyewash as major policy decisions carry the stamp of approval of a tiny minority bending and moulding a situation or circumstance to their advantage. For a party with a difference being democratic is means to escape the harsh realities of not being tolerant enough to expression of diverse opinions and viewpoints as in a fraction of seconds a decision is arrived at as we saw in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chattisgarh as at the blink of eye all these three states got a new chief minister (mukhyamantri) severely overlooking all those who were in the race. As long as party is in the driver’s seat not many are going to raise any pitch but for the content and context of it that may dramatically alter or shift making BJP a little wary and jittery refusing attempts to experiment of any sort at this juncture. With the list going on there will remain elements of self doubts, cynicism, criticism, praises and acknowledgement as for the obedient and dedicated foot soldiers and lieutenants of the party for now everyone seems to keeping their fingers crossed with no sign of relief at all
