Poem: “The Land Lies Bare”

Shrinking of the Avalahalli Forest…

Few months back this very home was covered in a lush green band.

This tree stands testimony of all the killings of tiny creatures,

It has seen it’s brothers and sisters tall and short,

Growing wild, playing about and falling down.

I wonder if this tree of life tell these children with a frown,

‘ Hey you tiny humans, do you come to me with a bad idea in mind?

Keep this place clean and green.

The shade and solace in no time will not be heard or seen.

By the time you all become big and strong.

I wonder if you too like other big people,

can find out what has gone wrong?

Why am I alone here?

Why are there no more trees and calm breeze?

Why no more swings hang from our branches?

Where did the horses gallop away from the ranches?

Will you come back here in this space,

Will you too join the atrocities of the human race?

Will you let me stand alone like the last profit?

My wisdom I shower on you all as you roll on the red dust,

Mother Earth shall keep you safe and you all keep the earth green.
