“Interstellar” begins on a blighted Earth, where rampant dust storms and famine have plunged humanity into a desperate struggle for survival. Former NASA pilot turned farmer, Cooper (Matthew McConaughey), lives with his children, Tom and Murph, and his father-in-law, Donald. Murph believes their house is haunted, but Cooper realizes it’s a gravitational anomaly communicating coordinates. Following these coordinates, they discover the remnants of NASA, now operating in secret.
NASA reveals a plan to save humanity by finding a new habitable planet through a wormhole near Saturn. Cooper is chosen to pilot the spaceship Endurance alongside scientists Brand (Anne Hathaway), Doyle, Romilly, and two advanced robots, TARS and CASE. Cooper reluctantly leaves his family behind to embark on the mission.
Their first destination is the potentially habitable planets orbiting a black hole named Gargantua. They must choose between Miller’s planet, where time passes rapidly due to its proximity to the black hole, and Mann’s planet, which seems promising but is later revealed to be uninhabitable. Despite the loss of one crew member, Doyle, they continue their journey.
As time dilation affects them differently, Cooper and Brand’s relationship becomes strained. Meanwhile, on Earth, Murph grows up and joins a team working on a plan to save humanity. She deciphers a message from her father leading her to solve an equation that could manipulate gravity, potentially allowing mass exodus from Earth.
Cooper and TARS decide to sacrifice themselves to save Brand, entering Gargantua to transmit data necessary for humanity’s survival. Inside the black hole, Cooper finds himself in a tesseract constructed by future humans, enabling him to communicate with Murph across different points in time. Cooper realizes he is the “ghost” communicating with Murph in the past, using gravity to send her the data needed to solve the equation.
Guided by the information provided by her father, Murph completes the equation, allowing the remaining population to evacuate Earth. Cooper sends this crucial data back through the tesseract before being pulled into the black hole.
Emerging from Gargantua, Cooper finds himself in a distant future, rescued by an advanced space station built by descendants of humanity. He reunites with an elderly Murph, who explains that the station is humanity’s new home, made possible by his sacrifice and the completion of the equation.
Having accomplished his mission, Cooper realizes his work is done. He says goodbye to Murph and departs on one last journey, leaving the new world to the future of humanity.
