Punjab governor and administrator Banwarilal Purohit has tendered resignation from his position citing personal reasons and prior commitments coming on the heels of his meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Recently, BJP won the Chandigarh mayoral elections with opposition AAP and Congress crying foul over tampering of ballot papers with Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal staging a protest outside BJP headquarters in the national capital. Few years ago former Delhi Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung too has stepped down from his post citing personal reasons I am yet to convince myself what could have been the possible trigger behind this action ?
Office of governor has been increasingly politicised serving as active agents of centre refusing to uphold the constitutional ethics and morality performing their responsibilities and duties in a partisan manner escalating a row on contentious matters and issues. For state governments continuing and carrying with their day to day tasks has become cumbersome with governors unnecessarily poking and peddling for no reasons despite having numbers on their side Jharkhand governor didn’t invite JMM single largest party there for staking claim to government formation after Hemant Soren had to put down his papers after being arrested by ED in alleged land scam case.
In Delhi too, LG is hell bent never missing out on opportunities to calm Arvind Kejriwal pinpointing towards the loopholes and lapses in various governments projects. Had it been for constructive criticism than nobody could have over reacted but for the chain of events where key opposition leaders are prime suspects and targets from Hemant Soren to Arvind Kejriwal bearing the brunt of a system that is highly unjust and oppressive denying level playing field to its its victims. Most of the cases are prolonged without any sufficient evidence tarnishing the image and reputation of accused especially for opposition INDIA bloc on the radar of Modi-Shah for a while.
Fracturing their unity is a pre condition for BJP to stay very much in the hunt luring key opposition figures out of the scene is going to reap maximum dividends accelerating it’s pace de federalising the very federal structure and nature of our constitution mounting an assault on the civil rights, duties and liberties of common and ordinary if the value of their vote will be blatantly abused and violated at every juncture. Signs of a crumbling democracy as power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely!
