In olden times, even before any media (Legacy/ Mass), being an Artist was considered as a boon for any human and were considered the chosen ones, expressing in such a way others wouldn’t even think about was a kind of unique in one manner- was all about gifted talent. Today, through skill learning of A.I. tools and how algorithm works, people create artworks quickly, easily and at low cost, but still Artists need not feel threatened as one of the primary criticisms is that A.I. -generated artworks lacks the human touch and emotional depth that is clearly seen in comparison with a traditional artwork.
Although A.I. can replicate certain styles or techniques, it struggles to capture the essence of human creativity and imagination. According to ChatGPT, “Art is the creative expression of ideas, emotions, and stories through various mediums such as painting, writing, music, and more.” But an Artist thinks it as a way of living… personal discipline, self-discovery, and life experience define Art for him/her. and that’s the reason why A.I. can never replace artists.
Grady Williams, a digital arts professor at Palomar College said “A.I. will always be able to generate fantastic images, but it will become homogenized.” A.I. art although feels fresh, newly designed art, but it’s done by uploading existing artwork into an algorithm that collects information and then creates its own new design. A.I. generators rely on data of already existing art and text which a human feeds.
It doesn’t look, think and feel an art and create its own but It simply gathers samples of everyone’s art and then mixes it into something else. And as A.I. does refer to another artists works It further is a question of ethical boundaries and this creates images that are intentionally meant to copy an artists style; without their consent. (If any human artist tries to do that its legally punishable, violation of copyright Issue and one’s Intellectual Property)
For things such as fan-art, self-published books, logos and family portraits, people may use A.I. as they would want to save money than the quality of artwork. They will prefer to use A.I. if it keeps their costs low. So a lot of these small jobs will be affected / even vanish. This questions the recruitment of artists in coming years. A.I. -generated art has a typical ‘look’ to it, although it is getting better and better, as time passes by, users will become used to it and may stop using it anymore due to its inauthenticity and cheapness. I also think that, we might even see a appreciation for traditional media in coming years.
AI animation has been around for longer than some decades, for example, Disney’s Lion King remake made use of deepfake A.I. Game engines such as Unreal Engine 5 and Unity are making use of AI for animation, Recently many leading app developers like Adobe, have been launching AI products. Adobe Firefly is the design software to create an ethical AI art solution. Meta announced Animated Drawings, a new A.I. app that animates doodles and sketches. Meta’s app can remove out-of-domain images so deep fakes aren’t an issue, with this idea being an A.I. app. It doesn’t delete human involvement and creativity from the process of animation. But, at the end Human needs a Human to understand and relate to any creation which portrays a need of life – Art.
