Former UP chief minister and BSP supremo Mayawati’s decision to take a call on her joining the INDIA alliance is being viewed and seen with a lot of hope and optimism especially for the constituents with Congress taking the lead. For the grand old party convincing SP chief Akhilesh Yadav has been a task cut to size though he seems to be giving a clear signal how things goes on to materialize from here will be everybody’s call.
In 2019, political relations between SP and BSP soured after their decimal show in the parliamentary elections with SP bagging ten and BSP bagging five matters began to further escalate between both as it was largely believed that SP benefited at the expanse of its strategic alliance with Mayawati’s SP. Lot of time has passed since than as both Akhilesh and Mayawati know that without a formidable electoral build up it will be next to impossible to test and check the growing tide of BJP both organisationally and electorally in Uttar Pradesh.
For the opposition needs to operate at two levels from social cohesion to fragmentation of their vote base they need to play their part cleverly, clearly and cautiously as even a small neglect can scuttle their chances before they can imagine of swiftly taking off. More than seat distribution it is the winability of the candidate mattering utmost in the backdrop of caste and community equations.
I understand opposition particularly Congress needs to pad up and scale up its tasks if at all they want to remain in the hunt or contention or else curtains will come drawing for them if for their reluctance to display any sense of urgency. Its high time for them to come off their cocoon and start acting and reacting as an evolved political outfit rather than choosing to stay as a conscious think thank grand old party needs to look for avenues and methods to better it’s track record switching to a mode that it hasn’t taken so far in a while hitting the accelerator with full faith in its attitude and approach. Certainly, Mayawati can give wings to INDIA alliance if at all for that purpose as politics is the art of improbable and impossible as nothing is permanent over here
