It Is Important For Us To Have A Conversation About Inclusion Vs Merit

Stefanos Kasselakis is one of the first openly gay prime minister candidate of Greece, he wants to legalise same sex marriage. This makes me realise how important is the representation in any job.

So in India, Dr. BR Ambedkar wanted to be inclusive so that Dalit and other disadvantaged groups should represented and be given equal opportunities and rights. This not only helps other people from the same community to feel like they belong but also gives hope that they can achieve something. It helps the representative to voice the problems they face as a community and can help in the upliftment.

However such people are disadvantaged and deprived of the basic needs so they are unable to achieve anything to their full potential. On the other hand we have people who work hard have every resources to achieve their goal. Such privileges help them to get their dream jobs or dream college.

Only on the basis of merit the person is going to get the seat or the job, but that’s not the case. Reality is – the person who’s been not privilege might get the same job even he achieved 50% of the merit of the general public whereas the other person achieved 90%.

Wouldn’t the person be feeling cheated on because he’s been taught that everything you will achieve is on the basis of merit, but he didn’t get the job even though he worked hard. But what is the fault of the other person, he achieved his best under his own circumstances and it is important to uplift such people.

So it’s never about reservation. It’s about the flaw in the social structure. It’s about Inclusion v/s Merit and that is where we have to work and talk about.
