We as humans have evolved from environmental determinism to possibilisim . The development of technology as well as humans took place at a rapid rate after the industrial revolution in the 19th century. The humans are capable enough to do complex researches , are able to cure deadly viruses by coming up with immunity injections etc. It has become easier for us to travel from one place to another within a short interval of time ,gather geo-political knowledge between 2 countries , continue jobs by working at home and what not. All this is because of the advancement in technology which was introduced by the human itself. No matter how much the AI evolves the potentiality of innovative human brain cannot be competed easily. However the birth to this innovative mind is given by education. Education gives the access to explore, analyze, and interpret in every field of this world. The AI based technology as well as industries started by human was only because of education, education serves as the keystone for technology development furnishing individuals with the adeptness and comprehension required to pioneer. This education be it in moral-values or academics helps us to plan and think about diverse things. Recently in 2023 the ISRO made it viable to reach to the moon however it was not only because of human but his knowledge about science which comes in physics, chemistry as well as math. A single mistake would have failed the whole mission but because of the deep knowledge as well as inquisitiveness the mission became triumphant. Doctors who were the main heroes during covid could only work because of the educational period of 10yrs which they went through to gain knowledge about the field. Similarly urban-planning, town-planning , forestry, climatology comes under geography which as a subject is related to all the disciplines of education. We are able to reside in a particular locality because of knowledge which we gain through books and by educational institutions etc. The ability to read and write is the main principle of education and one who has it rules the world.
“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can used to change the world “
– Nelson Mandela
However there are areas in the world where education is not accessible by people, a particular gender is not allowed to read and write because of societal stereotypes. Education is one of the most salient things that provides us freedom as said by Amartya Sen and Mahbub ul haq emphasized the importance of education which was later adopted by the UNDP in 1995.The UNESCO data of 2019 states that nearly 8% of the children in the world do not go to school and practice child labor. The main reason that helped to grow this % is violence and poverty. Majority of the families in the world encourage child labor as the concept of lucrativeness is given more importance rather than fostering the basic fundamental right . However international organizations like UNESCO,UN,UNICEF, Harvard university and organization for economic cooperation and development have introduced various policies as well as schemes to alleviate the complication of illiteracy in the world. During the 2022 international literacy day the united nation institute of lifelong learning introduced 2 new publications assisting tech supported literacy learning. It emphasized the importance of technology as a means to deliver education worldwide . The organizations introduced schemes to provide technologies to economically backward people who are willing to study and who cant afford education.
India as a country has also introduced various educational schemes in order to provide education in every corner of the country. Various initiatives introduced by the government such as NEP, Ishan VIKAS, ISHAN UDAY, Shiksha Parv initiative , National means cum merit scholarship have assisted to provide education as well as lessen the rate of illiteracy at an exceeding rate. Not only the government organizations but many non- profit organizations in the country such as ” Pehchaan the street school”, Muskhurahat foundation, CRY foundation , Narayan seva sansthan etc helped to provide education to the youth who were financially not available to afford the education. These organizations such as “Pehchaan the street school” help to educate the youth at an efficient rate. This NGO has not only helped to provide education but has also helped in the personality development of students all over Delhi. Gaining recognition by the society as well as the government ” Pehchaan the street school” was appreciated by international crowd as well . The children in slums are now able to confidently express themselves and take decisions for their own selves. These NGOs are not only reducing the illiteracy but also helping the world collectively to be a peaceful, literate society as a whole. However we need to realize that to eradicate illiteracy in the world the steps needed to be taken individually from the home itself as every small measure contributes to make a big change in the society.
