Supreme court cracking the whip on remission to the perpetrators of Bilkis Bano by the Gujarat government is a foot in the right direction. High ranking functionaries of Gujarat government had honoured and garlanded these convicts upon their release from the prison late last year pointing to the gaps and flaws in the legal process with Bilkis Bano running from pillar to post for getting herself noticed and heard.
Over the last few years she was forced to shift and re locate owing to the fear of her security and privacy. Repeatedly being hounded, heckled, threatened and targeted she hasn’t lot all hope and is fighting for seeking a justice she duly deserves at the first place. Rather, than changing and shifting the goal posts Gujarat government should make its intention clear on whether she deserves a fair trial or continue to be reprimanded daring to challenge the authority of the influential people running the show from behind.
PM Modi who actively campaigned for the abrogation of triple talaq should lead from the front by directly intervening in this matter correcting a wrong shaking the conscience of the common and ordinary law abiding citizen of the country. Bilkis Bano,s case shines the light on our system guaranteeing a safe passage to those with an access to almost everything from connections to networks swiftly getting their way for the rest it’s the same old story they need to toil hard and harder.
Bilkis Bano deserves a mention for standing up with all her courage and conviction confronting those who didn’t spared her snatching whatever she had. Hers is a testimony of the personal agony, grief and a despair with which she had to deal with over the past few decades. Justice delayed is justice denied !!!!
