Here’s Why Every Class Curriculum Should Include Games Period

When we hear this four alphabet ‘GAME’ suddenly we become attentive and lost in our imagination. ‘Games’ are something that refreshes our minds, makes us comfortable, and teaches us a lot of things.

It teaches us something which will help us further in our journey. Like learning to accept defeat in a game and try again in the hope of winning, making an effort together with others, teamwork, and making our way.

In the modern era, we have given our entire time only to studies, where we only study, go to school, and then go to tuition, after that, whatever time is left, we switch on the television or are on our phones. We are so busy with our schedules that we don’t have any time for ourselves or to play. Due to this, students today are more depressed.

New data released by the WHO shows that 9.3 percent of youth (18–24 years) in India suffered depression in the earlier months of the lockdown, which increased to 16.8 percent by March 2022. Most children feel depressed or have little interest in doing things. They are worried about their career but not about themselves, they have to fulfill the dreams of their families but they are not able to do those things which they want for themselves.

Playing games is a form of therapy for every child. It helps them to improve their problem-solving skills, leadership qualities, skills of observation, and intuitive abilities. Games also help them to get out of their depression. It helps to maintain our physical health. It is important to give children time to play, only then they will be able to learn all the skills they will need as adults.

I know it is a problem for teachers to implement these games in their schedule because they need to complete the syllabus. However, it is said by the National Curriculum Framework that it should be mandatory for every school to implement their policy of new education. Every class should make it a point to include physical exercise in their timetable. If teachers are not able to include this due to the portion, then they should give less homework so that children can play for at least one or two hours during the day and refresh their minds.

Now even parents do not need to worry because children can also make their career in sports. But our country India still has a long way to go in changing their mindset. Our parents and teachers think that students should get a stable job. They even hit their children if they do not do well in their studies.

I am also a student in Grade 11 and when my friends call me outside to play, I feel excited like a child but then I remember that I need to study or complete my assignments and I lose that excitement. Hence, I would suggest that students should get at least an hour to play games in a day.
