A Winter Morning In Yamuna Ghat, Witnessing The Hue Of Sunrise

People would say winter mornings are the best time to enjoy sightseeing in the city of Delhi. But in reality, as the temperature dips in the northern plain, the love and feelings toward morning sleep become more intense. However, we sacrificed that beautiful nap on the cozy blankets on a weekend to treat ourselves to the mesmerizing sunrise view of Yamuna Ghat.

Our plan was to reach the destination by 7 am as the sunrise would be at 7:03 am. We booked a cab and left home by 6:30. However, we felt lazy and lethargic while waking up, but a handful of freezing water on our faces flicked away the idleness. We became excited about the view that we were only familiar with through some pictures. While in the cab, we even planned the poses for pictures that we could take and cracked some jokes to dispel the sleepiness.

After a drive of more than forty-five minutes, the driver reached a bridge, saying that was the location. Unfortunately, it was not the actual location, so we redirected the navigation on the app to reach the real location we intended to go. One of us had already nudged us about the missed route; she had come for the second time. But now, regretting for ignoring her warning which had wasted our time. Finally, we reached the location after the sunrise.

Yamuna Ghat is actually the Yamuna riverbank, which offers a beautiful view of the next island-like opposite river plain. The boat rides during the sunrise, where seagulls fly all across the river, make this particular place unique. During the rise of the sun, the reflection of the yellow sky turns the wavy water into a dynamic glossy golden alloy, while the milky feathers of the seagulls plunge across the sky. However, the stinky smell of the polluted water impedes the joy.

We were a little disappointed because we missed the view of the glittering hue of the sunrise. The sun was already up with a pale yellow, and the sky was turning blue from yellow. The river water was a few steps down as there was a firm river wall built with rock and cement. We stood there and had an initial glimpse of the scenery for a few seconds. The boats sailed with people across the glittery water, and flocks of seagulls made different designs in the sky. The cool breeze slithered over one side of the face while the warm rays of the sun hit the other side.

Finally, we decided to have a boat ride to the opposite island-like space, where we could have a small walk enjoying the view. The beauty of the scenery was enhanced a little more as we got on the boat. We were a little scared as no safety measures were placed there. The island is basically a visible swamp after the water retired from the plain. There were some green grasses and weeds garnering the edge of the maroon plain.

We couldn’t find any scope for more activity there other than capturing photos. It would have been more enjoyable if the soil was good to sit and relax. Anyways, we started clicking photos—single, group, candid—with different postures and poses and whatnot. We also shot one dance before leaving to post on Instagram, which later turned out to be an action song. We all had a calm morning with a lot of fun and joy. It is always necessary to find time to embrace nature’s magic amidst the monotonous mechanical urban life. It rejuvenates the inner soul spirit to shine brighter. We left the Yamuna Ghat with a lighter and peaceful heart.
