To begin with, I have read no mythology before and it was my first time reading one, that was also a Greek one, of which I know nothing. The story and the characters were a lot to take in and sometimes I had to google up the names of some characters/Gods.
Many people believe that writing mythology is a pretty straightforward task. All one has to do is gather up some famous facts and enlist them in the respective order but on the contrary, I think, it is one of the most challenging tasks. The writer must be accurate as well as entertaining so that one may not feel bored while reading the same mythology that he/she has been told a million times before, which Madeline has done so fervently that I was chuffed with the story and wanted to learn more about it. So, yes, my first experience of reading mythology was amazing. I got to know some of the major excerpts of history like the Trojan War, what happened in that war, how gods were worshipped, and how humans were treated by those gods.
This book represents the story of Circe, a goddess who was nothing but a disgrace to her family in the beginning, and time was never kind to her, it’s her story of rising above all, it’s the story of her love for morals, it’s the story of her groggy pride, it’s the story of her love, her death, her sacrifices, it’s the story of a mother who can fight gods to protect her child, and most importantly it’s the story of Circe: The Witch Of Aiaia.
This book is just amazing. Sometimes I cried, and while there were some scenes where I laughed, some scenes made me cringe towards the gods we were worshipping, but at last, it was all worth it. Now I can’t help but seek more information concerning Greek Mythology. So, if you haven’t read it yet, then pick this book up. I’m sure you’ll not be disappointed.
