Established 78 years back after the end of the Second World War on 24th of October, 1945, with the objective “To Save Succeeding generations from the scourge of war“, United Nations has always proven to be futile in the name of establishment of peace and to provide justice.
At present, 12 peacekeeping missions are being led by UN in Africa, Asia, Europe and West Asia. There are 3 ongoing peacekeeping missions in West Asia. Still, there is continuous chain of turbulence in this area and now Israel and HAMAS (political organization turned into terrorist organisation ) conflict can be witnessed which is costing innocent lives.
Where is UN at this point? A speech of condemnation is enough from the view point of this organisation! Also, the ongoing Russia and Ukraine war has entered it’s 608th day on 24th October, 2023.
Sadly, there’s no United Nations Organisation. It’s has become mute organisation lately which has turned blind to all its responsibilities. It has ended up being a pawn in the game of power politics.
Nowadays, the United Nations has a limited role in resolving international issues. This is due to the fact that the majority of conflicts are not addressed by UN resolutions, which are only advisory in nature. As a result, the United Nations system requires reform to reflect today’s changing needs and realities. All countries must recognise the UN ICJ’s jurisdiction in order to resolve such difficult international conflicts.
It works according to the balance of power and the western domination certainly is a major factor in its dysfunctioning which has resulted in failure in enforcement mechanisms and security council inaction .
What’s use of then observing it’s foundation day when it has lost its significance!
It has to re- emerge as a united organization of all nations without any biases or under the yoke of any powerful country. I urge people to question the stakeholders of peace instead of picking sides. Think above religion, race, gender, creed, colour and other such divisions. We are already divided into borders geographically as well as economically. It’s time to come together as Human Race with no borders.Let’s be human first and make this world a better place for our coming generations.
