Distance and online learning have become essential mediums for those who cannot attend formal education, with the added prominence due to COVID-19.
The Distance & Online Learning department at JMI
Jamia Millia Islamia has been running this department since September 2002. When students find themselves unable to take formal education or unfortunately could not get selected in formal education as there are limited seats.They take admission in it and get stucked with its system. Today, we will discuss the ground reality of distance learning at Jamia Millia Islamia.
Study Materials:
Students face challenges right after admission, starting with study materials. These materials often contain inaccuracies and false information. Some students even receive incomplete study materials,or no materials leaving them to find for themselves.
Online Counseling Sessions:
Online counseling sessions have limitations, even in these times only a few dedicated teachers trying to help students. Some teachers neglect their meetings with eagerly waiting students, and there is no accountability for this behavior.
Examination Results:
After a year of hard work, students eagerly await their exam results. After passing several months everyone receives similar marks, regardless of their effort. They get 2nd Or 3rd position rarely 1st position.This approach fails to encourage students to build successful careers.
Completion of Course:
Completing a course can be most difficult task, some students spending even more than four years on graduation(Even this is far from new time period fixed by the New Education Policy).
Mismanagement:
The department lacks responsibility and accountability. Students often struggle whole day even for a single meeting with course coordinators, and even the director seems free from students’ problems.
What Needs to Change:
If Jamia Millia Islamia wishes to maintain its prestigious status, it must work on improving every department associated with it.Prospective students are drawn to the university’s reputation, but some end up trapped in departments that do not meet their expectations.
So, before enrolling in any institution, it’s crucial to understand the ground reality. Your entire career is built on the foundation of your education, and making informed decisions is essential for success.
