Ever seen a turnt up moth flying around a flame? I felt the same listening to Ennio Morricone’s The Braying Mule from Django Unchained.
I don’t know what it is, but the music is so good; and yet Ennio criticized Quentin Tarantino for not using it with coherence.
I don’t agree with Ennio here. An African-American man riding a horse in 1850’s Mississippi when slavery existed needs this kind of music to feel the coolness and the badassery of the moment. (“They ain’t never seen no n***** on a horse before.”)
QT excelled here; he used the music as I expected as an audience.
