“Are Women Less Than Cows That We Wait While You Count & Draw Lines?”

Why did Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra say that women were considered ‘less than cows’? Are we women less than cows that we need to wait while you count and draw lines? These particular remarks rolled as the Lok Sabha discussed the women’s reservation bill during a special five-day Parliament session. With the links of a census and thereafter a delimitation exercise, the TMC leader said that the women’s reservation may not be possible even in the year 2029.

She pointed out that the date of enactment stayed indistinct as the date of the next census has yet not been decided, and the date of the delimitation exercise also stands doubly impossible to be accurately identified, counted or measured.

Her assertive nature does not contradict her powerhouse of a bold voice. It remains so remarkable that, when the confident ruling party began struggling with the provision of reservations about females, she got a rapid reaction to express regarding the gift. It was such obscure that she expressed her views which could have been straight out of her role as a keen parliamentarian. Innately, life has moved at breakneck speed since.

It can be very wholesome, announces she diplomatically. These days, her oratory remains in focus. Her expressions come in Lok Sabha as a deeply personal response. Is she found to be ever feeling nervous about sharing her emotions within the parliament? These are what come most artlessly in every aspect.
