Empathy, compassion, community service, and volunteering are things we have learned in school. But it’s disappointing that very few people continue serving the community. The worldwide prevalence of disparity in accessibility to healthcare, food, water, and other resources makes it the responsibility of every individual on this planet to help fellow humans.
Good habits and exceptional personality form the core of any good society. And habits and personality form in childhood. Hence, our responsibility as good citizens is to cultivate good habits in young minds. Volunteering is an excellent way to enrich children with compassion and empathy while teaching them their role as independent citizens.
Organizing health camps and visits to homes of underserved communities, distributing food and water to the underprivileged, and teaching the younger kids are excellent examples of how children can serve the community. Suppose it is made mandatory in the school curriculum. In that case, children get habituated to community service while helping the students to develop their personalities with kindness and compassion for everyone and ensuring that they learn the importance of non-discrimination of the underprivileged.
In a world with ongoing natural disasters and violence, we must do our part in helping the underprivileged while encouraging each other to do our part in the community. Even if it’s a one-time effort, the world could become a better place if you can serve your community by doing your bit.
“Let’s strive for a community of peace, good health, and resources for all of us, as teamwork, empathy, and compassion can make a good community!!”
