Big Tennis Events Halt Due To Climate Activists & Searing Temperatures

In many ways, it has often been the routine normal situation for modern-day big tennis events as all possible efforts are made to complete the matches in a polished and formal way, but the climatic activists make it look more problematic & uncomfortable than traditional occasions.

Year to year big tennis events are disrupted due to either climate activists or comparatively searing temperatures. Lately, we have heard how four climate activists disrupted the US Open and put the ongoing women’s semi-final on hold for a longer duration at Arthur Ashe Stadium.

Reportedly, the US Open semi-final between Coco Gauff and Karolína Muchová was interrupted by climate protesters early in the second set. One of the protesters got his feet glued to the floor of the stands at the Arthur Ashe Stadium.

Gauff was holding serve to open the second when a disorder broke out in the upper spaces as shouting disrupted play at the venue. Forty-nine minutes after the remaining activist was ultimately expelled. The players returned to the court from the dressing room.

The climate is already more disruptive than any activists can be, said Miles Grant, a spokesperson for the climate group.

The average rising temperatures have been making the situation hotter and riskier for the players and spectators as well. At some point, there will be fewer outdoor sporting events due to excessive heat. This year’s tournament has been impeded by a late summer heatwave in New York, leading world No. 3 Daniil Medvedev to claim that a “player is going to die” in the oppressive hot conditions. Also, Just Stop Oil protesters interrupted play at Wimbledon in July, releasing orange ticker tape mixed with jigsaw puzzle pieces during the matches.
