What stood out as the dominant trend with two senior politicians of the country who did not step out of their respective conveyances because no vital person turned up to receive them in the fiery hue. Was it not a case of following protocol ultimately?
One was our PM who did not come out of his aeroplane as the senior officer had reported not arrived at the airport to welcome him. In another case, it was none other than quite aged Lalu Prasad Yadav who showed his traditional annoyance at the non-arrival of his close relative to duly receive him.
Little did they know of this experience when everything fell out of whatever burden they seemed to have ably realised on that tender occasion. Undeniably, our PM was on his official visit to South Africa while Lalu Yadav was embarking upon his private visit to his village after several years.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi allegedly “refused” to leave his aircraft on August 22, because the South African government did not send a more senior official to welcome him to the country, South African news outlet Daily Maverick reported government officials as saying.
Our country’s PM did not come out of the plane due non the presence of a senior dignitary of the host country on the tarmac. When the news of his resentment reached the top bosses, the Vice President of South Africa happened to come to receive him at the airport. As regards Lalu Yada his near and dear relatives reached near his car to hail him accordingly.
After all, they felt very much flattered and turned their annoyance into winning moments as we come to know in today’s changing socio-political terms. Although it could be said that one attempted to let the protocol be followed while another liked to not do away with the deep-rooted social norms sometimes we demand the time.
