Nothing can excuse the desecration of a holy book. Several demonstrations at which protesters have burned copies of the Holy Quran, a Muslim religious book, have not only outraged Muslims around the world but strong opposition prevails. Despite their open ire, this untenable practice goes on in Sweden and Denmark.
It is profoundly defended under the freedom of speech at the cost of all those countries which do not tolerate this impiety at all. However, there remains every excuse by the countries allowing the burning of the Holy Book.
Sweden criticises reportedly Russia’s intention to spreading disinformation over the burning of Muslims’ holy books. This is aimed at stalling Sweden’s entry into NATO.
Swedish Prime Minister, Ulf Kristersson, wrote on Instagram that Sweden was right now the target of influence campaigns, supported by states and state-like actors, whose purpose was to harm Sweden and Swedish interests.
Sweden’s attempt to join NATO following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has brought it into the international spotlight. Not months ago but only on the last days, the United Nations Security Council unanimously adopted resolution 2686, which not only recognised how abject incitement could lead to conflict but called on countries to “publicly condemn violence, hate speech and extremism … and prevent the spread of intolerant ideology and incitement to hatred”.
