Kathmandu Theatres Have Banned The Screenings Of Adipurush, Here’s Why

Undoubtedly there prevail adequate or instant tensions between Beijing and Italy and India and Nepal over certain conflicting matters. If Italy has amply proceeded to check a Chinese state-owned company from grabbing the authority over tyre-making giant Pirelli.

Coming to another area of tension between India and Nepal it is the obvious usage of India’s daughter for none other than Janaki in the film AdipurushTwo prominent cities in neighbouring Nepal have moved to prevent the screening of the film Adipurush so long as the controversial line is not seemingly modified herewith.

Italy’s government decision remains part of actions to safeguard Pirelli’s independence. It will be apt to mention here that Beijing-controlled chemical giant Sinochem is Pirelli’s biggest shareholder, with a 37% stake in the 151-year-old Milan-based firm.

Recently Pirelli in a statement said to its investors that the Italian government had ruled that only Pirelli’s boss Marco Tronchetti Provera could select a candidate as its chief executive.

Likewise, the mayors of Kathmandu and Pokhara have criticised a line that calls Janaki “India’s daughter.” About 80% of Hindus in Nepal strongly believe that Sita was born in Janakpur, a city about 220km away from Kathmandu which not many but all people would though fully be knowing. It continues to be referenced even to the relatively modern day. There happens to be a story behind so big and so spellbinding.

Balendra Shah, mayor of Kathmandu has reportedly asked theatres in the city to stop screening all Bollywood films. Not only this but he had also appealed to the makers of Adipurush to remove the highly contentious dialogue. He even went on to say until this objectionable part is removed from the very film, no Indian film will be permitted to be screened in the Kathmandu municipality area. Further, ANI reported that Dhanraj Acharya, mayor of Pokhara Metropolitan City had also requested theatres to discontinue screening the movie.
