Poem: “The Business Of Interpreting People”

People interpret you, through the lens of your religion

People interpret you, through the lens of your parents

People interpret you, through the lens of your caste

People interpret you, through the lens of your skin tone

People interpret you, through the lens of your gender

But people will never interpret you, through the lens of you!

This reduction of human personality to a handful simple terms is highly insulting.

Though the reasons why our brain does this can be explained psychologically, its not an excuse.

” In the absence of data about a stranger, brain exploits the existing information it already has, to build context for the profile of a stranger’

What a person thinks about you, tells a lot about them, than about you

One’s opinions are a reflection of one’s value systems

Also, most of these interpreting terms are always out of our control.

We didn’t chose our skin tone, but we are judged for that, and are made fun of, because of our skin colour.

If we are to judge people, it should be for their ill behaviour alone, not skin tone or anything else that is outside their control.
