After Jawan’s Postponement to 7th September, Mumbaikar becomes the first Hindi film of one of the finest actors in the country, Vijay Sethupati. Sethupati along with Ranveer Shorey, Vikrant Massey, Hridhu Haroon, Tanya Maniktala along with the evergreen Sanjay Mishra star in this comic action thriller. The movie is directed by Santosh Sivan who has 12 National awards to his name. This movie is an official remake of the Tamil film Maanagaram which was written by the massiest Lokesh Kanakraj.
Plot
As the title suggests this film revolves around the city of dreams Mumbai and the life of the four people which includes happiness, drama, fun, and romance as they interlink with each other. Their lives become entangled as they navigate the city’s labyrinthine streets, taking them on a path of self-discovery and atonement. With their lives on the line, they must face their inner demons and find the truth hidden under the surface.
Pros
- Performances: Vijay Sethupati’s comic timing is something to look out for. The South Superstar leaves his impact even when he is not doing an action scene. There is a scene where Sethupati interacts with three schoolchildren who are punished to stand on their knees in front of some Christian God statue. Sethupati asks them if they were praying and in their reply of “punishment” he says “Punish karnese homework ho jayega?” This comic timing shows how talented he is and he can do big here in Bollywood. With his next theatrical Bollywood release with Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan on September 7th, it would be a treat to watch two talented actors facing each other. Vikrant Massey along with Sanjay Mishra make their impact with their powerful acting performances. Tanya Maniktala too looks pretty whenever she comes on the screen.
- The climax of the film is worth watching as the last 20 mins thrill you and keep you on the edge of your seat.
Cons
- Wasted Starcast: With such talented stars in one movie the director could have given them more, it feels like Ranveer Shorey, Sanjay Mishra, Vikrant Massey, and even Vijay Sethupati should have given more sharp and to-the-point scenes with proper direction.
- The cinematography of the film feels too weak, at some points, you can clearly see the mistakes and even some scenes look as if they’re shot on a mobile camera. Although this movie is available free on Jio Cinema that doesn’t mean one can make films with such laziness
- The movie feels dull in the first hour 30 minus which eventually is 75% of the film.
- The song has no timing and is put after an important scene which has no connection with a romantic song.
Conclusion
Mumbaikar is a film is a time-pass movie that you can give a shot at if you have lots of time and if you want to see the comic timings of Vijay Sethupati, he makes his presence felt.
