Recently fire broke down at one of capitals prominent coaching centre with students trying to escape using long ropes. Mukherjee Nagar being one of the city’s congested spaces is mushroomed with coaching centres mainly for UPSC and Judiciary that it becomes unimaginable to take a stroll down the street. Most of the coaching’s are built in a haphazard manner dilapidated putting the lives of scores of students at stake coming with a mission and vision to accomplish something big in their personal lives and career. But for the bosses of these coaching corners, it’s the commercial angle that attracts the most plastering walls with posters and banners to going all out for enhancing their enrollment ratio they refuse to look at safety standards important from students’ perspective. Fire safety audits never has been on their scheme plus they never felt the need to sensitize the students through way of awareness. Surat coaching episode was most horrific and terrifying claiming so many innocent lives that a mere mention of it shivers our spine. Will have to come off this sombre as fire safety audit should be made compulsory and mandatory for coaching across capital or else NOCs shouldn’t be granted to them under any compulsion as straight as that.
