A Trip Down The Memory Lane: My Visit To The Radio Station

A short story that brings me a smile…

It was 2009, I was in Kota, like any other regular student, obviously to prepare for IIT and AIEEE. It was Diwali time and all my PG mates had gone home. So, I was alone in my room with no one to talk to. Now that’s not scary, as some were returning the next day itself ( as Diwali was over), my pg owners were still there, and one girl, who was a really hardworking student was still there.

Me being there alone was also not boring, as I had freshly started listening to and getting fascinated by the world of FM Radio. Especially in the night, when they played old bollywood songs. Suddenly, I heard the RJ talk of some bollywood quiz, and the winner would get a hamper sponsored by Parle.

I thought of giving it a try and the call got connected! My heart was pounding as this was the first ever daring thing I had done in my life, that too all alone.

So the RJ asked me three questions, to answer in 5 seconds each; and I answered all of them!!

I was then contacted by the team and the next evening, I was at the Radio Station. I met the RJs there, was given a tour of the studio, as I was a kid for them. They just knew I was all happy, nervous, excited… evrything!

And then came the hamper, a big basket full of biscuits, chocolates, and all yummy things.

The best Diwali I had ever celebrated… because I had earned the excitement, the hamper, the confidence of visiting a Radio station… all by myself.

And not to forget is the reaction of my parents and the PGmates with whom I shared the experience later.
