Recent theatrical release of Kerala Stories and the total neglect of Sudhir Mishra,s Afwaah on the silver screen has stoked a public debate with multiplexes opting for commercially viable big banner productions. Lesser budget ones and lack of appealing star casts projects face the rot as for the content which may otherwise be exceptional and exemplary but no match for an audience base passionate by the shrill and thrills of special effects on silver screen. Still it would take a lot more for us to applaud and appreciate the labour which generally goes in curating and creating parallel art cinema resonating with the ordinary and common. Directors like Shyam Benegal and Sudhir Mishra deserve all plaudits visualising their out of box imagery and consciousness striking chord with a section exposed to it. I understand OTTs readily agree to broadcast there content but not without hiccups and hurdles impacting and affecting there outreach to a large mass. Attempts to smoothen this cumbersome process this will bear fruits for those actors, producers and directors carving their own space by leaving a mark for themselves. A crucial set of reforms will actually make Indian cinema get rid of such pretensions and posturing, ruining and rupturing the spirit of the storyline and all that which goes behind the scenes.
A wake up call for Industry guys.
