In a democracy, governments come, governments go; power shifts but one thing remains, i.e. the promise to make an inclusive society. But sadly – what often happens is only the opposite!

For the namesake, a lot of loud promises are made, but only a few see the light of day. Going by the Govt. of India website, “Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) was launched by the Prime Minister on 22nd January, 2015 at Panipat, Haryana. BBBP addresses the declining Child Sex Ratio (CSR) and related issues of women empowerment over a life-cycle continuum.” But seeing the same government act deaf and dumb on the sexual harassment allegations levelled against its MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh is devastating and unbelievable. It is certainly not the Incredible India, we Indians want to be known for.

The Indian PM Narendra Modi known for his marvellous oratory skills did not utter a single word on this issue, for which the wrestlers are on a sit-in (protest) at Jantar Mantar, New Delhi for almost a month now. The power can be said to be in the wrong hands when players who brought great laurels for the Nation, have to go through this mental turmoil. Justice looks like a word to be laughed at – when at first the police did not deem it necessary to register an FIR against the accused, and the Supreme Court of India had to intervene for the same.

Here one thing is clear, creating a programme and living up to it are two different things; and the current Indian government does not know how to match its promises, and make the country progressive not only in Reel life but also in Real life!

Olympic Medallist Bajrang Punia speaks to the media on 20th May 2023, describing how the wrestlers weren’t allowed to watch an IPL match in the Arun Jaitley Stadium (Delhi) between CSK & DC, citing they were celebrities and required additional security.

The manner government is dealing with the matter is out of place and definitely not an example of good governance.
