Letter To Hassan From “The Kite Runner”

Dear Hassan,

I want to ask you one question, how does it feel to be deprived of your rights? What does it like being selfless but still paying a price?

Hassan, you are that friend whom we all want in our lives but hardly become one. Every time I read you, I feel your life could have been better, just like Amir’s. You had a father whom you thought as your master. Your father could have accepted You. He could have treated You as his son, instead of treating you like his son. You were Amir’s brother but life threw challenges and made you his servant.

You left no stones unturned to protect Amir. Be it bringing kites for him or protecting him from being beaten up. It broke my heart seeing yours and Amir’s friendship taking a different turn after the kite flying competition. He saw you being beaten up but still didn’t try to protect you. But you proved your loyalty towards him again by bringing the kite for him even after being beaten up because according to you “for Amir, a thousand times over.”

Life again became harsh to you when you finally had your family; death took you away from them, leaving your son orphan. But thanks to Amir, who has taken the responsibility of your son and is also fulfilling his duty of being your friend and brother.

From someone who feels “for you a thousand times over.”
