I Watched ‘Gaslight’ And It Made Me Gaslight Myself!

Spoilers Ahead;

Gaslight, a new OTT movie starring Bollywood actress Sara Ali Khan, premiered exclusively on Disney Plus Hotstar. Vikranth Massey and Chitrangadha Singh are also featured in significant parts in the film, which was directed by Ragini MMS star Pavan Kirpalani. Let’s see how this suspenseful horror novella holds up.

Plot:

When her father Raja Ratan Singh (Shataf Figar) asks her to, Meesha (Sara Ali Khan), a wheelchair-bound woman and estranged daughter, comes to her ancestral castle after a long absence. She is met by her stepmother Rukmani (Chitrangadha Singh), who informs Meesha that her father has left town to address a strike situation in one of their industries. Kapil (Vikranth Massey), their estate manager, is then introduced to her. Soon after arriving at the palace, Meesha begins to sense some paranormal and enigmatic phenomena. Meesha informs Kapil and Rukmani that she met her father at the palace. Meesha thinks her father has passed away and is attempting to make touch with her through a spirit. What really transpired with Meesha’s father? In the palace, who did she see? How did Kapil help her solve the mystery? And all these questions were quite naive and predictable since the beginning.

The beginning had me hooked for a while, but after watching it for 15 to 20 minutes, it made me strangle my mind because, what the hell? Sara Ali Khan’s acting was so bad that anyone could have sensed that she was not really in the role but rather overacted it. Spoilers: Sara Aka Meesha was the friend of Raja Ratan Singh’s daughter, who attempted suicide and eventually died. The cause of her death was anxiety and depression. And what a coincidence: Meesha was the girl who, after ages, found her in a psychiatric ward and treated her, but when she attempted suicide, it made Meesha take revenge on her behalf from her stepmother so he could unearth the mystery. Chitrangada, on the other hand, tried her best to act but eventually failed to do so, but if we talk about Vikrant Massey, then man! He was the only one who completed the movie. It was his acting and efforts that made the movie work a bit, but overall, it was a pathetic experience to give my time to watch this movie.

Again, the story line was naive and predictable; there was literally nothing to be called a story. If I could give the movie a -1, I would. Periodt.
