“Oscar probably nominated RRR to capture the Indian audience’s attention and increase its view count.”
“The film is an embodiment of Hindu propaganda.”
“RRR is casteist.”
“Naatu Naatu wasn’t even that good, an Oscar was undeserved”
Naatu Naatu may not be M.M. Keeravani’s best work, but the fact of the matter is, it was new, it was unique, maybe not for us but that’s definitely the case for the international audience. Maybe it provided them an escape from the MCU which is starting to seem ordinary as each day passes by. Maybe RRR acted as a gateway for the West to explore new cultures (Just like how Parasite and Squid Game gained popularity).
Was RRR Hindu propaganda? Should glorification of a certain religious figure really be considered propaganda? Doesn’t Bheem taking refuge in a Muslim household and calling them “Ammi” and “Abbu” promote co-existence?
It’s important for us to appreciate art and film-making without dragging politics into it. Keep in mind, RRR was just a fan-fiction, the only thing historically accurate was the names of the protagonists. It’s important for us to celebrate a victory, it’s the first Indian production to win an Oscar after all. If the USA can turn their fathers into rappers then India can turn their Revolutionaries into super heroes.
