The proverb, ‘Drowning man catches at a straw’, proves wonderfully correct in Albany. It was like a little help is enough in trouble. When a few people fell into deep trouble in the sea, they wished they could get some needful support. Had they luckily secured some sort of immediate help, they would have been saved at that critical moment. It remains generally difficult in seawater to get timely support. Even, a life raft for the drowning men was also dropped by AMSA but it blew away.
It was reported that the three men were fishing near Eclipse Island off the Albany coast in perilous Western Australia sea waves. Their vessel, unfortunately, capsized in the vast sea and they started to sink into the deep water.
Here what was worth noting was an esky and life jackets that kept them afloat on the seawater luckily. As was reported the esky proved to be of much support to save their lives amid hopeless conditions. Without the lifesaving device, the men may have died at sea, said Chris Johns, Albany Sea Rescue coordinator.
Although about the same time, friends of the men had reached out to authorities and informed them that their friends were in trouble. Only after being alerted to the situation by friends, did the sea rescue team without any idea of where to look for the search operation. According to the plan, they were due to ably come back but had not returned. The delay caused extra concern to the kind friends.
Albany Sea Rescue coordinator Chris Johns said that the men would have been difficult to find without the Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon (EPIRB) on their vessel. An EPIRB was likely what saved the group which started in time alerting authorities to the men’s exact coordinates.
Meanwhile, one of the rescued men was taken to hospital with suspected hypothermia while the other two were reportedly taken to the Albany Sea Rescue base. At last, they were thanking God for grasping at straws. Sometimes a little help brings wonderful outcomes.
