Some Spoilers ahead!
As a long-time Bhuvan Bam fan who’s literally grown up watching BB ki vines, I watched Taaza Khabar. It is the latest Bhuvan Bam production and has six episodes which are 30 minutes long, directed by Himank Gaur and created by Bam himself.
I binged Taaza Khabar and loved watching Bhuvan Bam outside the BB ki vines universe. You get Bhuvan as an actor, writer, producer and singer. He is a total treat to his fans.
Where to watch Taaza Khabar?
The show is streaming on on Disney+ Hotstar.
Plot
Taaza Khabar is another rags-to-riches story, where a sanitisation worker gets powers to predict the future. ‘Taaza Khabar’ is the news he gets on his phone before it happens and is only visible to him. It’s a superpower Bhuvan gets post a series of happenings.
Taaza Khabar starts with Bam being extremely poor, struggling to make ends meet, and living in a posh bungalow. ‘Taaza Khabar’ is the story in between.
Acting
As I said in the title, it’s a one- man show, Bhuvan is the star of Taaza Khabar. But, more than anything, the entire show relies heavily on the cast. Bhuvan Bam as Vasya is a treat to watch. He’s so at ease with his character, acting does come naturally to him. Loved to watch Shriya Pilgaonkar, too. She’s just stunning. Prathamesh Parab as Bam’s ride-and-die best friend was just hilarious. The cast of Taaza Khabar is what works for me the best. It’s top-tier.
What Worked For Me?
Taaza Khabar was taaza. Indeed, it seemed fresh and kept me intrigued till the very end. I was on the edge of my seat, thinking about what next. Bhuvan Bam’s Vasya was convincing. I loved the cinematography and soundtracks too. It just went so well. The plot seemed somewhat convincing but had its faults.
Bhuvan’s entry super is heroic and splendid. In the role of a gangster, he does a fantastic job. However, Vasant Gawde is not a gangster, not at first. How the world treated him and his loved ones made him who he was.
There’s a scene in the end when Bam becomes rich and takes his lady love on a date. She asks him- “Kidhar ja rahe hai?” To which he says, “Aukaat ke Bahaar“. After being poor all his life, the smile and satisfaction on his face for having money, liberty and the freedom to do anything he is so beautifully portrayed. He says he’s going beyond his limit without worrying about money for once. I think this stuck with me. The song “Khwabon ke Mele” by Bam playing in the background was just the cherry on the cake.
The best part was that it was super entertaining, PAISAWASOOL. Taaza Khabar will not bore you at all. It’s a 3-hour-long show. You won’t blink your eyes for a second, that’s for sure.
What Could’ve Been Better?
Apart from the cast, Taaza Khabar lacked substance for me. There was just something that made the entire story not believable. It was pretty rushed. The character development would’ve worked if given some time to each character. In episode 1, he’s poor in episode 3, he’s a filthy rich gangster. That was hard to believe, I found it way too rushed. The characters won’t leave an impact on you as such. You’ll watch it, enjoy it and then forget about it as soon as it’s over.
I wish they gave it a few more episodes and some time. The story started so well, then became the movie “Jannat” at a point. Seemed a bit repeated to me and ended very abruptly.
Final Thoughts:
If you’re looking for something short and entertaining with a great cast. Taaza Khabar is for you. Just Perfect for a lazy weekend.
I would rate it 7/10. (All 7 for Bhuvan)
