Has OTT Taken Over Television’s Popularity Completely?

“Entertainment, Entertainment & Entertainment!”

Seems to be a typical catchy Bollywood movie line, right? However, entertainment serves to refresh the human mind when it is stressed or bored by daily activities. Television started in the middle of the World War but gradually gained popularity over time. In the current scenario, the popularity is slightly declining as it competes with its competitor OTT. For decades, television was the only entertainment drug for almost everyone in the world, sometimes for childhood and sometimes to the people of old age. Television is equally attractive to all. With all the information about the country and abroad coming within the reach of people through this electronic device, this TV was a suitable companion for spending time. Sometimes a little different touch in the monotonous life, sometimes again all the news of the country and abroad are exchanged between people. Meanwhile, before the beginning of the 21st century, this entertainment world gradually started to improve with science after 2000. Whether it is the mobile phone in the palm of one’s hand or the development of the Internet. Science and technology are constantly evolving in an effort to make people’s lives extremely simple & beneficial.

In the initial phase, this television was watched at the home, workplace i.e. in very few places but with time it spread into the arena of everyone’s life. It became so popular that family get-togethers were held around this television in evening. Sometimes watching movies or sports, the joy of watching TV together with the whole family was different. In the 90s, sometimes it was seen in India whether it was watching the Olympic or the World Cup games in the streets of the neighborhood, even people gathered there to watch any important news about higher education or politics, or any special event of national level, the center of attraction of people was around this TV that time period.

To the current generation, the TV may seem like a prehistoric device to modern technology, but the reason for that is to say that in this modern internet world, time is very less in people’s hands, and people’s needs & taste of entertainment have changed too. People are more action-oriented than before and are constantly looking for a taste of something different while doing their works. People don’t get much time to get a little piece of entertainment in regular ordinary life, whether it’s a mobile phone or scrolling through the Internet. At this moment the solution is become more stable option for people. The streaming service is ultimate solution for these problems that’s why OTT comes to the rescue. The OTT means ‘over the top’ platform originally appeared in 2007 by the American company Netflix. But in 2008, this OTT medium was first released in India by Reliance Company in India and slowly all over the world, the OTT captured the attention of more audience than regular television does. Moments after its debut, this OTT started gaining popularity, creating a new dimension not only in name but also in technology and entertainment.

Meanwhile, everyone needed a large TV set to watch news, movies, and daily soaps; now, modern technology makes it possible to watch on the Internet without any difficulty. Essentially, the sole main draw of OTT is that it can be readily seen anywhere without any hindrance, secondly, it can be watched shows by choice without any obstacle, and finally, this OTT availability is increasingly impressing the generation. Society has discovered a desire for privacy and independence in the new OTT system, where various news, programs, or movies can be discovered at a glance, and has increased in popularity due to its ease of use and low cost.

Due to the lack of all these things in the traditional TV, nowadays people have adopted this new medium of the internet world more. Not only this, entertainment lovers find new tastes through it. But no matter how much people’s craze for television gradually decreases, the name of this television will be engraved in gold in the history of human entertainment.
