Quick Bytes: MCD Elections

Delhi Bhartiya Janta Party chief Aadesh Gupta has tendered his resignation after BJP’s drubbing and debacle in the recently concluded MCD polls, where his parent party literally came close, throwing a challenge to Kejriwal’s AAP winning hundred and four seats against hundred thirty-four. Still, a lot would take for the matters to settle than for the stalemate for mayorship, which is not going to die anytime sooner with BJP pandering to tricks, theatrics and tactics testing the political waters of Kejriwal giving the former a run for its money. Kejriwal is mindful of not walking into the BJP’s trap as the anti-defection law is toothless in MCD. Elected councillors can pick sides during voting for mayor without being reprimanded by their parent party. BJP ruled MCD for fifteen years and is interested in building a political basis against Kejriwal, which the latter would definitely puncture in the face of a strategy, skill and scheme to keep the saffron party out of the fray. Can Delhi Chief Minister keep all his flocks together, or else will he play down to the gallery of the central government as in Gujarat, where five AAP MLAs might defect to the BJP at any point in time? Surely, Kejriwal, too, has his ears to the ground still in competitive politics; you need to be on your toes or else risk an occasion to compete, contest and claim your dues. Important to see how BJP would rate this resignation and get back to its blueprint and designs. Throwing its hat in the ring next few days is going to be quite crucial and decisive. The Mayor post after delimitation has become a cherry-pick post-verdict in MCD
