7  Problems Faced By Teenagers

Teenage years are the most important years of one’s life, people get to learn new things during this period of their life. An individual from age 13 to 21 is very vulnerable to face many problems while growing. Some of those issues are often not looked upon by their parents and family which leads to problems.

So here I present 7 common problems faced by  teenagers.

  (1). DEPRESSION

According to a survey 20% percent of teenagers suffer from depression in their life. Depression leads to severe personality changes among teenagers which is often ignored by friends and family. Teenagers who witness some kind of domestic abuse or neglect during childhood are at more risk. Because of depression teenagers often neglect their academics, show signs of shyness and remain isolated from society from which their social life suffers a lot.

(2). BULLYING AND HARASSMENT

Bullying and harassment are rampant in schools which makes lives of victim hell. Due to harrasment many teenagers end their life or fall into depression.surveys shows that one in every 5 teen is bullied at school. This could take place in many forms like making fun of one’s name, teasing, beating in front of class. What’s more surprising is that many bullying cases never get reported to the class teachers or principal of schools, victim suffers a lot by keeping his pain to himself.

(3). PEER PRESSURE

peer pressure to get accepted in a group or to look cool has made every teenager to do what they never wanted to do but had to do to become accepted in a friend circle. This hampers social development of teenagers in long run. From smoking and doing drugs to bunking classes and from changing their way of talking, dressing everything peer pressure can  make a teenager do. Teens often loose their originality due to peer pressure.

(4). SOCIAL MEDIA ADDICTION

In this digital age when internet is just one touch away from from a person it’s hard not to use social media. Teens on an average use more internet than their older generation and remain more active on social media. Due to this Activeness, addictions build up and teenagers get hooked onto it and waste lot of precious time. Also the desire to be famous on social media apps like TikTok, instagram, Facebook has led teenagers to become addicted to social media which often leads to their poor academic performance.

(5). INSOMNIA AND LACK OF SLEEP

However this issue is faced by almost every age group but teenagers are more prone because they often use smartphones before sleep  and a study shows that 57% percent of teens who use technology in their bedroom suffer from sleep disorders. The more a teen gives his eye screen time, harder it becomes for him to fall asleep. Due to lack of sleep and insomnia teenagers often miss their attendance at schools and fail to perform well in academics because all that good night sleep they neglect at night makes them sleepy during daytime.

(6). DRUG ABUSE

Drug  abuse is a common problem among teenagers and when human brain is not full developed it becomes hard for teenagers to understand real dangers of drug use. Many teenagers fall in the trap of drugs and destroy their important years of life which eventually leads to problems in their personality and can trigger mental health issues which hampers their academic growth and career in future.

(7). LOW SELF ESTEEM

Many teenagers suffers from low self esteem during their school life and miss schools or remain isolated. Low self-esteem could also be a symptom of depression or other mental health issue and should be checked. Shyness and low confidence is a very big problem in adolescent age which leads to poor performance in school. Many teenagers with low self-esteem often get bullied.
