When you’re on a night out with your galpals, and late at night, after the gossip session is done, you plan on watching something together but can’t seem to find shows to binge till you pass out or you live with your best friend and binge-watch shows together but can’t seem to find the perfect ones. I got you.
I have made a list of 6 fantastic TV shows that celebrate female friendships ranked in order and how if nothing, your girls got you. So watch them with your girlfriends right now, and thank me later.
Insecure
While many shows are about how women party and have it together all the time, There aren’t enough shows made today that embrace female insecurities and instead celebrate them. Insecure is my favourite show in the genre because it is true to the bone and realistic. It’s been so damn relatable and therapeutic for me. Women are not always confident or well dressed, and these super successful creatures you see in quintessential chick flicks. Sometimes they are just comfortable in their skins, being insecure and proud.
Issa Rae is a literal star who embodies all of these traits in her character, Issa. The drama follows Issa, played by Issa Rae and her best friend, Molly. It’s the story of Issa, Molly and their girlfriends navigating through life in Los Angeles. Trust me when I say it, you will fall in love with these beautiful black women as they go through their journey called life by sticking to each other and, yeah, partying the F out.
However, it’s a bit lengthy, with 44 episodes and five seasons. You can watch all the seasons of Insecure on Hotstar.
Firefly Lane
Firefly Lane is just so heartwarming. It’s about two best friends, Tully and Kate. They support each other through the thicks and thins and are just there by each other’s side, rock solid. It reminded me of my best friend, and I forced her to watch this. This series is about my best friend going through life and me literally. The way Tully and Kate’s friendship progresses from teens to adult women in their mid-forties in just everything. The best part about Firefly Lane is that it was renewed for season 2 and is now streaming on Netflix. So watch it with your best friend right now.
It has 19 episodes and two seasons in total. You can watch Firefly Lane on Netflix.
Fleabag
Fleabag is one of the best things I’ve ever watched, and trust me. I’m not even exaggerating. I’ve become such a huge Phoebe Waller-Bridge fan since Fleabag because she’s the writer, actor and even one of the show’s producers. Indeed a one-woman show. It’s about a super witty, no-filtered woman who’s Fleabag. She’s just navigating love, life and everything in between in London and coping with her tragedy.
You absolutely can’t afford to miss Fleabag. It has two seasons and 12 episodes; you can watch it on Amazon Prime Video.
The Bold Type
The Bold Type is about three women working at a women’s magazine called Scarlet. This is hilarious and relatable as the three women come together from different backgrounds and start pursuing their dream in New York. This beautifully showcases female friendships through the lens of women in their mid-twenties. There’s a lot of fun, party, work and men.
It has 52 episodes and five seasons. You can watch The Bold Type on Netflix.
Big Little Lies
Big Little Lies is produced by HBO and is based on the novel of the same name. It’s the story of three women named Madeline, Celeste and Jane. They are a trio of super-wealthy young women in California. However, their lives are taken by a storm when a murder takes place in their super posh town. It’s a story of how the trio would have each other’s backs and is also a super intriguing murder mystery. Galpals, some drama and a murder mystery. You’re in for a party with this one.
This is also critically acclaimed, and the first season of Big Little Lies was nominated 16 times for the Emmy awards and won 8.
Big Little Lies has 14 episodes, and you can watch it on Hotstar.
Girls
Girls are about an aspiring writer named Hannah. Hannah is taken aback when her parents cut her off financially, and she struggles to make ends meet. But, she is all in for kickstarting her career with the help of her friends. Hannah and her friends are women who are just figuring things out, getting to know themselves and trying to learn what they want from love, life, and friends. It’s funny, witty and just super relatable.
Girls have six seasons and 62 episodes; you can watch it on Hotstar.
