Opinion: Why I Think Congressmen Are Afraid Of Shashi Tharoor

The Congressmen have decided that they will not. Those who dig themselves without understanding the reality even when every state and leader is washed away from under their feet. The leadership has proved once and for all that the main enemy is the RSS and the BJP and they want a Congress-free India forty times an hour. What is being said is about the banning of Shashi Tharoor’s program in Kerala. Shashi Tharoor’s run for the presidency was the answer for ordinary workers who were wondering what was the way out for a party that was struggling to stand upright. The presidential election, which went to a contest after 22 years, directly faced various pressures. As Tharoor raised his brand value in the party, Tharoor’s support among party workers increased. It is because of that brand value that Tharoor lost the race, who shocked the leadership and won by 1072 votes, but won. But a group of Congress leaders who were not amused by this had started preparing for war against Tharoor. The latest example of this is the Kozhikode ban.

This time, Tharoor entered the race for the post of President knowing exactly the situation of Jitendra Prasad, who contested against Sonia Gandhi 22 years ago. Tharoor kept saying in most of the interviews at that time that there is no Congress apart from the Gandhi family and if Rahul contests, he will withdraw from the race. Tharoor’s aim was not to leave the party branded as a rebel. Instead, a new Congress was formed. But even Congress leaders in Kerala were not ready to understand that or support Tharoor. Tharoor’s tour in Kerala has disappointed at least some Congress leaders who thought that Tharoor’s journey would be outside the party like Jitendra. It is unfortunate that Tharoor’s program, which was not expected at all, was not accepted even by the DCC. The reason was the ‘call’ from above.

The Congress leadership came forward to ban the first event in Kozhikode without even listening to the theme of Sangh Parivar and the challenge of secularism. The question arises as to what political message the Congressmen are sending by the move to ban and discourage speaking against the enemy instead of accepting it. In short, Vilak Tharoor’s program has been given more publicity.

Youth Congress was the first organiser but after they withdrew, the same program was organised in Kozhikode under the leadership of Jawahar Youth Foundation. The huge crowd at the event was a double bonus for Tharoor. Kozhikode, Kannur, Realising that if Tharoor’s tour through Malappuram districts is completed, it will be a threat to them in the future, the leadership has come to the position of blocking the program somehow. Leaders supporting Tharoor point out that he was threatened with expulsion from the party if he participated in the event.

We want the speech, we don’t want Tharoor Congress leaders to have any doubts about Tharoor’s popularity and acceptance. Tharoor was made the party’s star propagandist during the last assembly elections in Kerala at a special event. At the end of the program called Talk with Tharoor, Tharoor spoke and interacted at various venues in 56 constituencies. The program was aimed at people from different sections of the society. Huge participation everywhere. Accurate and clear answers to all queries of teachers, techies, youth and students. Although the UDF lost the assembly elections, Tharoor’s p program created a lot of excitement among them.

When elections fail and leaders fall out of the fold, instead of finding a solution, the Congress leadership takes a single decision only to ‘fix’ someone else. This has also been seen in the presidential elections. Tharoor did not get support even from the G-23 group, a revisionist group in the Congress. Its ripples were seen in Kerala as well. The main Congress leaders in Kerala were of the opinion that Tharoor was not like that. The senior leaders secretly and openly accepted that they did not want any other leaders in the party apart from us. And ‘united’ just for that. Congress leaders made fun of Tharoor saying what kind of party qualification he has and that he is a trainee, but Tharoor did not take any of it at face value. Instead, his was an attempt to prove that Congressmen are not the only ones who have received credit, and that not only those who come through godfathers can become leaders. It was followed by rooting in Kerala and touring Malabar.

After the presidential election, the Congress leaders looked with great concern at the assessment of many leaders that if Tharoor came to know, there is a possibility of a new group in the Congress. The leadership is well aware that Tharoor is able to influence the youth, bureaucrats, students and religious groups precisely. Some leaders fear that their influence in the party will diminish if Tharoor is allowed to grow like this. This is also the reason for the ban, even as an anti-gang program. Even as the leadership tries to keep its head up by saying that there is no threat behind Tharoor’s ban and it is only a technicality, this has led the Congress to further crisis.

MK Raghavan MP, the chief organiser of the event, said that the ban should be investigated or he would have to say a lot at party platforms. Later, K.Muralidharan MP also came to severely criticise the leadership and will aggravate the crisis in the coming days. Muralidharan came forward saying that there is a conspiracy behind the ban and that they are the chief minister’s coat of arms, shocking the leadership itself. It is also noteworthy that the same Muralidharan who had criticised Tharoor’s candidacy for the post of President has come out in support of Tharoor today.

Youth Congress State Vice President KS Sabarinathan asked why this action is being taken here when Rahul Gandhi’s blunt statements against Savarkar in Maharashtra as part of the Bharat Jodo Yatra are giving the party excitement. Shashi Tharoor, who won three times as a Congress MP in the palm symbol, would have shared a similar idea. Sabarinadhan asked that it would have enhanced the political importance of the Congress and whether he was short of platforms in this world, cutting off the leadership.

Competition To Recognize Support

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot was first contested by the leadership saying that there was no official candidate for the post of President. The aim of Gehlot’s attempt to move from the post of chief minister to the post of Congress president was on the assumption that there would not be much competition. But when Tharoor came as an opponent and did not withdraw from the match, Gehlot withdrew. And the dispute over the post of Rajasthan Chief Minister also took a turn.

Mallikarjun Kharge replaced him. Even then, the leadership said that the party did not have an official candidate. But Tharoor and the party know that Kharge has already contested and become the official candidate. That is why there was a lot of pressure to withdraw from the competition and there was no support even from Kerala. Tharoor even lost the opportunity to ask for votes from many places. But this is what Tharoor expected. Tharoor was one of the leaders who clearly knew that he would not win if he contested and that Kharge was the official candidate. But how in Kerala ? The purpose was an experiment. Out of the 1072 votes received, the vote received from Kerala was a bonus for Tharoor. It is also estimated that this was a pre-prepared intro program by Tharoor to enter Kerala politics.

A single Facebook post by Youth Congress leader and MP Hibi Eden, who said that even if he lost, should not be a hero Shammi , was enough for Tharoor to get the pulse of a section of the people in Kerala. Youth, Youth Congress KSU workers and students came out with great enthusiasm in support of Hibi Eden’s post through comments. The party leadership in Kerala was not looking down on this at that time. This was also Tharoor’s competitive goal. This was a sign that if well cultivated and fertilized, it would yield hundreds of thousands.

Shashi Tharoor has been elected as a leader who is qualified to run as the national president and who is able to inspire the activists among the ranks who thought of Shashi Tharoor as just a Thiruvananthapuram MP before entering the presidential race. Tharoor once again convinced the nation that he is a leader with great eloquence, language skills, diplomacy, knowledge and observation skills. Tharoor is still in the limelight in the country’s mainstream media and social media. In short, Tharoor’s opponents made him famous by creating unnecessary controversy.

One Who Competes To Win

Tharoor has always described himself as someone who competes to win. But Tharoor’s intended victory was not just an electoral victory. The aim was to make his personality one more successful among the people through the competition. That is why he entered the competition even though he knew he would not win. This has been evident since he ran for the UN secretary post in 2006. Even then, Tharoor knew very well that he would not win if he contested. But Tharoor was able to open the brand of Shashi Tharoor to the world, which no one knew much about, and through that, he was able to innovate himself. Tharoor was supported then regardless of party politics. Achieved the status of Vishwapuran. That race was Tharoor’s entry into Indian politics and his rise to the post of Union Minister. The same strategy was adopted by Tharoor in the presidential election as well. A match that you know you will lose. As Tharoor thought, the presidential election showed that it was time for him to enter Kerala politics.

Tharoor During The Campaign

V. D. Satheesan and K. Sudhakaran came together to mold the leadership from the thought of what is next for the Congress, which is a question mark for the comeback after Pinarayi Vijayan won the continued rule. But one section was still disappointed.

The main debate was whether this leadership alone could win back the traditional Congress vote banks that had left. The truth is that despite the formation of CUC (Congress Unit Committee) under the leadership of Sudhakaran under the name of semi- cadre, none of this could unite the Congress and achieve the expected victory. It was during this time that the new hope, Shashi Tharoor’s contest for the post of president and the continuation of this, started the Malabar tour. During this time, great dissatisfaction was expressed against Sudhakaran leadership Tharoor also got the support of Muslim League and others. All this has angered some ‘high up’. But protests are rising at various levels against Tharoor’s ban. In short, the truth is that it is impossible in the Congress to move forward without Tharoor. Especially in Kerala. That is why even K. Muraleedharan, who had earlier opposed Tharoor, has now come out to support Tharoor.
