I Had A Horrible Experience With The Tamil Nadu Medical Selection Helpline

An Indian man looking sad

I just wanna share my experience while calling the Tamil Nadu Selection Helpline.

My Story

So I was allotted a Govt quota seat through the TN medical Selection, however it was not the course which I preferred. So I emailed the TN medical Selection requesting if I can resign the seat from the Government Quota and request to join in the Management Quota counselling in the mop-up round. Two days and four emails later I did not get a response. I was desperate as the deadline for the round-2 fee payment was coming to a close, so I tried to call them through the numbers given in the website. To my astonishment I found out that all the eight numbers given in the website would just say “the subscriber you are calling is busy, please try again later” and it would hang up! After trying all the numbers for hours I finally managed to reach them, and a very helpful person picked up the call, and patiently listened to what I had to say and said that she would talk to her superior and get back to me. One day later, still no response! So I decided to again get to the arduous task of calling the Tamil Nadu Medical Selection Committee. After hours of trying someone picked up and rudely cut the call after I explained my situation. I again tried to call them and it said busy/please try again later! After trying for a long time still no response.

What I Think Should Happen

Students are so scared! Some of them are suffering from depression and anxiety due to the poor support from the TN selection committee! I suggest that there must be an orderly way to reach them and at least they should try to check the email now and then!

My Request

It is alright if you don’t let students who have got a seat in government quota in the round 2 counselling, to participate in the mop-up round. However at least give them the choice to participate in the management quota of counselling. Please change the rules, I also saw other students on twitter requesting that they resign their government quota seats and participate in the management quota counselling.

I request the TN Medical Selection Committee to work on their helpline and be more helpful to the students!
