Money, Passion, And Crime: Story Is The Only Protagonist In Drishyam 2

Films are not only about stories. It’s collaborative art. So can we really judge films by only stories? Well, it’s upon you.

But in Drishyam 2, the story is the only protagonist. All other aspects are just supporting characters. Though the supporting characters contain too much insight. There’s Music. Frame. Cinematography. Montage. And most important— people. People in stories!

Through a montage, we feel the lyrical quality of cinema. It’s delightful to see a series of cuts. It’s just phenomenal. You see cut, cut, cut… and feel ecstatic. And in Drishyam 2, there’s too much montage. But it fails to arouse the ecstasy.

The film advises us to see only Vijay Salgaonkar. So I must focus on Salgaonkar only.

Only He-ro is Vijay Salgaonkar

Vijay Salgaonkar wears beautiful shirts. Let me confess that I would buy every shade of Salgaonkar’s shirts whenever I have money. Yes, Material pleasure! We’re bound to feel it.

Vijay Salgaonkar— He keeps a beard. He is serious. He reads books. He watches movies. He keeps his face stoned. He keeps all the secrets.  He is calm. He has composure. He doesn’t smile. He is the patriarchal-archetype of the institution called family. He protects his daughter from wicked boys. He makes fun of his wife. He loves his wife. He is a responsible man. He is a full-fledged man. He has the power to protect. Everyone follows him. He is a true he-ro.

Salgaonkar’s Passion, Career and Crime

The phrase goes— turn your love; your passion into your career. It promotes your odds of being successful. If you turn your passion into your career, you get those experiences that only successful people have. People get inspiration from you. You would become a cult figure.

Sorry to motivate you!

But let Salgaonkar tell you—You can also change your passion to a career which helps you to run away from the crime you have committed. You could fool common people. It’s easy to fool them, though. Politicians and businessmen are doing it these days rapidly. You could stab the back of a police institution; the repressive guardian of surveillance.

So how has he done this? For lessons, go for a watch. But let me try to summarize.

He has a passion for movies and stories.

He loves movies. So he produces a theater. He is going to produce a movie.

He reads novels. He reads Premchand’s novel Pratigya(pledge). In Pratigya, he-ro takes pledge to marry to a widow only. Here Salgaonkar takes pledge to save his family. You would find more references if you read the novel. But I think the book was only shown to highlight the word Pratigya(pledge).

He made his passion a career; a coming-producer and storyteller. Through these, he tries to run away from his punishment, and save the family.

Bhai Paisa Ho To Kya Kuchh Nahi Ho Sakta Hai

If you are here up until now, you must have observed I liked all of Salgaonkar’s Shirts. I have the desire to own those shirts. But I don’t have money, haha! Vijay Salgaonkar has, so he wears that.

One thing which makes any film is money. Through money, you could make films like Drishyam 2. If you have watched the film, you must have seen it. Let me tell you a banal paragraph on money.

Money makes friends. Money gets you into a relationship. At least, for showing purpose. Money makes connections. Money gets you into connection with lower strata of people. Money makes you enter the house of the rich. If you have money, people laugh at your jokes. Money makes you kind-hearted. Money makes you wicked. Through money, you make people dream on your behalf. Money makes you look tall despite all of your rags. Money makes you God.

Vijay Salgaonkar applies all of this money’s quality. You must watch the film to know this.

We all are chasing money. We all should make money. We must worship money. So that we could run away from the series of punishments we deserve on a daily basis. As Salgaonkar is telling us.

Second Time Experience Of Cinema Hall

I must admit that I have been to Cinema Hall only two times. And Drishyam 2 is the second one. The first one is I’m not going to tell you.

The screen looks good and vast. It’s quite an experience to watch people on the screen.

You see, the people there are very big. You could even observe the nostrils. You must give try to count the white beard of Salgaonkar. Any intimate scene could make you uncomfortable. It’s just too close.

And the most fascinating thing is that I have watched Drishyam 2 with very-literate people. When one of the characters asked about the commonality between Lal Bahadur Shastri and Mahatma Gandhi in the film— people sitting in back seats knew the answers, and the characters didn’t. People tried to speak very loudly but the characters ignored them. Even though I had uttered it loudly twice, nothing happened. It felt bad.

And now I must give you a spoiler— Ajay Devgan Fir Nahi Pakdayega.
