TW- Mentions of sexual assault and sexual harassment.
I watched the Bigboss season 16 launch this weekend because we must serve our guilty pleasures and I was horrified to see Sajid Khan enter the house as a contestant and cry about how difficult his life has been for the past four years. He said, “My success and arrogance destroyed my career”. Are you kidding me right now?
In case you don’t know who he is, Sajid khan is a famous filmmaker, Comedian, and actor who has made popular films like Housefull. He was taken down in 2018 in the #MeToo movement. Not one but nine women, all his female colleagues, accused him of sexual harassment or misconduct.
A History Of How Sajid Khan Preyed On Women And Got Away With It
Women including Sherlyn Chopra, who accused him of “Flashing his p**is at her”, and Saloni Chopra, who shared her story on Twitter about when she worked with Sajid Khan as his assistant director in 2011. She recalled the incident by calling it “The most awful experience of my life”. Her harassment also included “Bikini pictures and being called to work at odd hours”. After Saloni’s coming out with her confession, actress Rachel White too came out with her awful encounter with Sajid khan and how he asked her to “Strip down and seduce him, saying if she succeeded in that, she would get the role”. Later the same year, A journalist named Karishma Upadhyay talked about her encounter with him in the early 2000s. She talked about how he misbehaved with her when she was only doing her job by interviewing him. In her confession, she wrote about his trash talk and how “He took his pe**s out in front of her”, Which caused her severe mental and emotional distress, and she left home crying. In 2020, Dimple Paul, an Indian model, talked about how Sajid Khan harassed her when she was a minor and only seventeen years old by asking her to strip, and he would cast her in his movie. Ahana Kamra also accused him of sexual misconduct in an interview she gave and talked about how he asked her inappropriate questions in their meeting. Then Mandana Karimi came forward with her terrible experience with Sajid Khan and called him a “creep”. She talked about how he asked her to “remove her clothes” to get the part in his film. The late actress Jiah Khan was also harassed by Sajid Khan, Her sister Karishma revealed in a documentary titled Death in Bollywood. She talked about how distressed Jiah was about her encounter with Sajid Khan, where he asked her to “Take her top off” during a script reading.
They all came forward with gut-wrenching confessions, which shook the country and made Sajid Khan resign as the Housefull 4 director. He tweeted asking the media to “Not pass any judgement on him till the truth is out”. Ever since then, he’s been in hiding, and after four long years
After Being Accused By 9 Women, Sajid Khan Is Now On Big Boss
He’s in the Bigboss house. YES, YOU HEARD IT RIGHT. Talking to Salman Khan, the Big Boss host who himself is accused of beating and misbehaving with women, Lol The irony of it. Sajid Khan kept mum over any #MeToo allegations and talked about his box office successes over how he has directed big movie stars and has lost the ‘connect’ with his audience, which is why he is on the show. He called it a “Tough phase” when he was in hiding for four years, mind you (because he was accused of sexual harassment) and was not getting work. Ultimately, he concluded by saying, “Yes, I became arrogant after my films started doing well. There’s a saying “failure destroys people”. In my case, success destroyed me.” LMAO. I mean the audacity. Right? How about just STFU? A man accused of sexual harassment by several women has been invited on Bigboss, which is horrific, appalling, and disgusting and has disturbed me to the core. The fact that he hasn’t been jailed yet, Is given a chance to work and is here to rebrand himself on a reality show is everything that’s wrong with this country. A man is given a thousand chances to redeem himself and give explanations over something as horrific as sexual assault. Whereas the women who complained against him are out there with no work?
This is something that will never sit right with me. All of this stems from the deep-rooted misogyny and patriarchal setup, “Boys will be boys”. But my question is, Till when will we keep defending grown-up men instead of holding them accountable for their actions? My question is, why do these men get so numerous chances? Sexual predators, convicted felons? For instance, Let’s not forget the superhit movie ‘Sanju’, which glorified Sanjay Dutt and was a terrible attempt at whitewashing his image.
Bigboss is a controversial show and has always been, but how is giving a sexual predator a chance to give explanations and invite him on reality tv for the whole world to see, okay? Will they stoop so low for TRP and publicity? What about the women who have suffered because of him?
WHAT IS WRONG WITH US? It is time for us to take a pause and introspect.
