Congress Presidential election got concluded with 96% casting their preferences for the probable contender. Though, counting will take place on 19th but Mallikarjun Kharge was the clear favourite amongst the party cadres, workers and delegates but eliminating and discounting Shashi Tharoor from the scene would be the biggest blunder for him commanding the obedience and loyalty of Gandhi’s in his capacity as a Congress insider for his grip and grasp over the crispy vocabulary of English making him everyone’s darling.
Infact, Tharoor introduced his own manifesto detailing proposals for reviving and resurrecting the grand old party debilitating election after election. In my understanding, Tharoor has his reasons, visions and versions to reform the party but can he perform it in the absence of popular support for pulling the party through? I doubt as he was the signatory to the G-23 group of leaders burdening high command to take urgent and immediate steps to build the party a step that literally backfired sending ripples across reigniting the raging debate within the party to ideologically, electorally and politically devising itself as a challenger becoming the viable alternative.
Kharge will have a task to his hand on being elected fuelling energy, enthusiasm and hope bringing back the lost glory to party with his term as Leader of Opposition in the Parliament enhancing his prospects he will be closely watched from behind closed quarters having worked under different prime ministers acquainted thoroughly with rules of business in the best of his spirit and self. It would be too naive to predict anything much earlier
